Blog #5 Why?

Why would anyone want to become an author?

Oh yes, it is glamorous to be a creator of fiction. To actually have people tell you that they couldn’t put your book down, or they stayed up all night reading it, or it helped them to realize that their lives were a combination of their own choices/responses to life experiences (whether internal or external) and nothing else.  That was hard for some readers as they lamented being “smacked in the head with the reality that where I am today is not my parents’ fault.”

It is rewarding to hear from readers that my books not only helped them to come out of the closet, but intentionally live before God and others, as who they were meant to be. One of my favorite reviews was from a heterosexual man who told me that this wasn’t just a girly” book, and that it was important for men to read it as well.

He laughed and said that he bought it because it had a murder, a high-speed car chase and a kidnapping. And he loved those parts. What he didn’t plan on was loving the insights he gained about himself and his own choices in life as he became enthralled with the characters.

I absolutely love hearing from my readers. And as soon as I get better at all this technology/media that Im finally convinced I need I hope to be in a better position of responding in a timely manner.

But more than any of those reasons, I think, for me, the why, I have already mentioned in subsequent blogs. I love to teach. I love to entertain. Whether it’s hosting dinners in my home, or family parties, or surprising my grandchildren or nieces with spontaneous gifts, especially from other countries, I love to give to others, and that includes entertaining them, as well as teaching them when I have the opportunity to do so. Do they always listen when I teach? Not a chance. But, I have been told on more than one occasion that the input I gave was appreciated. As I told one client, probably more than one, all we can do is offer advice. It is not up to us, Weather, the person were trying to help actually takes that advice. My guess is that we are planting a seed, and that is all we can do. God comes along and waters that seed through other life experiences. And I know this to be true. If you’ve read all my blogs, you can see clearly how the seed to become an author was planted in me very early on.

It has been interesting and so very rewarding to look back and see how that seed was watered by so many people.  I am working on my third and final novel in my first trilogy.  Yes, I have been working on this novel for a couple years now.

My goal is to finish it by spring and submit it to my publisher. As we have seen before, if you have been following my blogs, life happens. I do know this writing is my passion. And I didn’t get here by accident. So, I try not to lament too much when Im having trouble writing what I want to write. Because, I know that when its meant to be, it will happen.

Stay tuned for more blogs!
